Divestment win at UC Berkeley this morning
Like hundreds of others in the overflow crowd last night, I'm completely exhausted after having spent 10 hours straight listening to an extraordinary night of emotional testimony about divestment at UC Berkeley. I'm so proud to tell you that at 5:30 this morning, Associated Students at the University of California (ASUC) voted 11 to 9 in favor of divesting from companies that profit from the violation of human rights abuses in the Palestinian Occupied Territories. Following recent divestment votes at UC Irvine and UC San Diego, this is another historic vote for human rights at one of the world's great public universities — but it is in danger of being vetoed if we don't act fast.
We need your help:
- Email ASUC President Landgraf at firstname.lastname@example.org with the message: Please don't veto.
- Add your name to the ad.
- Donate to raise $3,000 to pay for the ad.
In 2010, a similar vote passed overwhelmingly but it was vetoed by the ASUC president.
Write ASUC president Connor Landgraf now to congratulate ASUC and urge him not to veto.
The opposition is telling UC that Jews oppose divestment, so please sign our 2-page ad going into UC Berkeley's newspaper in a few days to let them know we support divestment for human rights (See ad below).
Even if you don't sign the ad, please click here to help fund this important ad which costs $3,000.
