(July 20, 2010) WASHINGTON (JTA) -- A Jewish grass-roots organization is petitioning a major financial services provider to divest from holdings in companies it says profit from Israel's occupation of Gaza and the West Bank.

(July 20, 2010) Last month TIAA-CREF responded to our campaign requesting that the fund divest from companies that profit from the Israeli occupation. On the occasion of the meeting of the CREF leadership, we have some questions in response to their statement.

On June 24 TIAA-CREF issued its first reply to our campaign. That's good news. We launched with fewer than 300 signatures, and TIAA-CREF is already paying attention. We are increasing the number of people signing up to our petition -- including many more TIAA-CREF participants!

Over 250 professors, doctors, rabbis, filmmakers, authors, and others sign initial petition
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) announced today a campaign to convince pension giant TIAA-CREF to divest its holdings from the Israeli occupation. The initial petition (available here), signed by prominent TIAA-CREF clients and others, has been delivered to TIAA-CREF.
