Gabe Schivone and the new hyphenated-Jewish identity

The Jerusalem Post recently charged that
a human rights activist who participated in the siege-busting Gaza
Flotilla was falsely claiming to be Jewish. Given the high stakes over
criticism of Israeli policy and the Flotilla in particular, such
unsubstantiated charges to discredit a young Jewish activist are not
unexpected. And they aren't surprising coming from the very paper that
published the patently false allegation that participants in the flotilla boats to Gaza were bringing sulfur and were planning to kill Israeli soldiers.

National Museum: CAT event cancelled. Ask that CAT award be nixed too!

The National Museum canceled its event honoring CAT. Ask them now to please rescind designation of the Henry C. Turner Prize for Innovation in Construction Technology to Caterpillar Inc. and identify an alternative nominee whose values and principles are maintained at the standard expected of a Turner Prize recipient. National Building Museum Cancels Caterpillar Award Ceremony

Olympia, Washington – September 7, 2011 – Due to pressure
from social justice groups across the country, the National Building
Museum has canceled a public award ceremony to present Caterpillar Inc.
with the 2011 Henry C. Turner Prize. Given in partnership with Turner
Construction, the prize is awarded annually to recognize “an invention,
an innovative methodology, and/or exceptional leadership…in construction
technology.”
