JVP Bay Area Welcomes Israeli activists Micha Kurz and Moriel Rothman-Zecher!
6:00 PM at LaPena Cultural Center, Berkeley
Micha is the co-founder of Grassroots Jerusalem. His organization is unique in that their work is focused on building the foundations for a just future after the occupation, where a Palestinian civil society can thrive. Micha has been on the ground in Jerusalem amidst the racist Israeli marches and violence these past few intense weeks. He’s written for Mondoweiss and others on the insanity of what’s happening and the overt racism he has witnessed.
Moriel is an Israeli-American activist, writer and poet who will speak about his experiences with conscientious objection (Moriel spent time in military prison in 2012 for refusing to enlist in the IDF) and with nonviolent activism and organizing against the occupation –including a campaign to stop the demolition of Susiya, a village in the South Hebron Hills, nonviolent demonstrations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem as well as recent demonstrations in Tel Aviv against the war on Gaza, which were met with repression and violence, both from the police and from pro-war counter-protestors. Moriel was born in Jerusalem, and raised in a religious home in Yellow Springs, Ohio and Zikhron Ya’akov, Israel. After graduating with a degree in Arabic and Political Science, Moriel returned to Jerusalem to work as a field activist in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
