Peter Beinart’s recent New York Review of Books piece, “The American Jewish Cocoon,” makes an important point about the Jewish community’s lack of understanding of Palestinians. However, while it initially reads as a progressive call for deeper understanding, at its core it continues to reflect many of the damaging assumptions of the mainstream Jewish community that he claims to assail.

41 faith leaders from national Christian, Jewish, and Muslim organizations called on Congress to oppose the proposed authorization for the use of military force in Syria. The list of signatories includes Rebecca Vilkomerson (Jewish Voice for Peace)as well as Rabbi Brant Rosen and Alissa Wis (Co-Chairs of Jewish Voice for Peace Rabbinical Council).

The California Assembly is considering this week Resolution 76, which opens the door to condemning advocacy for Palestinian human rights in California campuses, while ironically giving lip service to free speech on campus. Ask your representative there to vote NO on Assembly Concurrent Resolution 76. More info here.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization well-known for over-reaching in its zeal to defend Israeli policies at all costs, released a report in July about Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) which was apparently intended to be an expose of JVP's mission, activities and goals.
