June 19, 2017–The Network Against Islamophobia mourns with the family and the entire Muslim community over the brutal murder in northern Virginia this weekend of Nabra Hassanen, a 17-year-old high school student who was abducted while walking with several of her friends. Our hearts go out to them during this unbearable and unimaginably painful time. We send our deepest condolences.

This horrific act comes in the midst of ongoing violence directed toward Muslim, Black, and immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communities, including, most recently, the unconscionable acquittal of the Minnesota police officer who murdered Philando Castile and, this past weekend, the murder by Seattle Police of Charleena Lyles, a Black mother of four who had called 911 to report a burglary, and the vehicular attack just yesterday on Muslims leaving a North London mosque.

We, Jewish partners in the fight against injustice, redouble our commitment to stand against Islamophobia and white supremacy in all their manifestations. We redouble our commitment to be steadfast and principled partners to the Muslim community and all those targeted on the streets and by our government. We redouble our commitment to protect, support, and stand together with one another without exception.

We hope you can contribute to a fund set up to support the family of Nabra Hassanen: https://www.launchgood.com/project/for_nabra#/
