Support the Caravan of Migrants and Refugees

The U.S. government is using tear-gas on unarmed families at the border with Mexico. This is an appalling use of military technology against asylum seekers. We condemn the use of force against migrants and refugees fleeing terrible conditions of poverty and war. As Trump calls for private militias to join in to “protect our borders,” we call upon all people of conscience to publicly denounce the use of violence to control U.S. borders, and to support the work of migrant-led organizations offering aid at the border.

“In moments like this it is of critical importance to connect our struggles. The right to seek asylum is intrinsically connected to the right of return, and they are both upheld by international law. It is our responsibility to not be idle witnesses to the atrocities committed against refugees in Gaza and in the Mexico/US border.” – Ari Belathar, JVP Organizer

The first images of tear-gas use against migrants and refugees at the Mexico/U.S. border were sharp reminders of what happens regularly to the grassroots protesters in Gaza, a majority of whom are refugees seeking to return in the Great March of Return.

The tear-gas being used on the Caravan is the same tear-gas that was used on the water protectors of Standing Rock. And the tear-gas used against the people of Gaza is the same that was used against protesters in Ferguson. All of it manufactured in the U.S.

Along with our partners in Gaza, we extend our heartfelt support to families and refugees seeking a better life. The people in Gaza are facing dreadful violence at their borders – and though the situation is incredibly different than those in the Caravan – all of the marchers, families, refugees and protesters deserve our support and for us to speak out against the violence they are facing while they seek a better life.

Join us in saying no to militarized borders. No to the use of violence against grassroots protesters. And YES to a future where we welcome refugees and help them, as in Gaza, to return home.

Apoyo a la Caravana de Migrantes y Refugiados.

El gobierno de los Estados Unidos está utilizando gas lacrimógeno en contra de familias desarmadas en la frontera con México. Ello representa un uso inaceptable de tecnología militar en contra de refugiados. En Jewish Voice for Peace (Voz Judía por la Paz), condenamos el uso de la fuerza militar contra migrantes y refugiados que huyen de condiciones inhumanas de pobreza y guerra. Mientras Trump pide que milicias privadas se unan para “proteger nuestras fronteras”, nosotras hacemos un llamado a todas las personas de conciencia para que denuncien públicamente la militarización de la frontera de los EE. UU., y  para apoyar el trabajo de las organizaciones lideradas por migrantes que están trabajando para ofrecer ayuda a los miles de migrantes y refugiados varados en la frontera.

No pudimos dejar de notar que las primeras imágenes del uso de gas lacrimógeno en contra de migrantes y refugiados nos recuerdan lo que les está sucediendo a los manifestantes en Gaza, quienes en su mayoría son refugiados que buscan regresar a su tierra en la Gran Marcha del Retorno.

El gas lacrimógeno utilizado en contra de  la Caravana es el mismo gas lacrimógeno que se usó en contra de los protectores del agua de Standing Rock. Y el gas lacrimógeno usado en contra del pueblo de Gaza es el mismo que se usó en contra de los manifestantes en Ferguson. Todo ello fabricado en los Estados Unidos.

Junto con nuestras compañeras y compañeros en Gaza, extendemos nuestro sincero apoyo a las familias y los refugiados que buscan una vida mejor. La gente en Gaza se enfrenta a una terrible violencia en sus fronteras, y aunque la situación es increíblemente diferente a la de la Caravana, todos los manifestantes, familias, refugiados y migrantes merecen nuestro apoyo y con su dignidad nos exigen que nos manifestemos en contra de la violencia que enfrentan, por   buscar una vida mejor.

Únete a nosotras para decir no a la militarización de las fronteras. No al uso de la violencia contra manifestantes pacíficos. Y sí a un futuro en el que damos la bienvenida a los refugiados y los ayudamos, como en Gaza, a regresar a casa.
