JVP Statement in solidarity with the people of Baltimore

Jewish Voice for Peace stands with the people of Baltimore as they demand justice for Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old Black man who died of a spinal cord injury while in police custody. Thousands of protesters throughout the city have mobilized against a national epidemic of police violence against Black people.

When more than 600 JVP members visited Baltimore last month for our National Membership Meeting, local organizer Reverend Heber Brown advised us, “find a way to bend your privilege in the direction of justice.” As Jews, many of us white and some of us people of color, we heed the call of those who face the consequences of inequality every day.  We re-affirm our commitment to resisting and reshaping the structural inequalities that exist within American cities, in Israel/Palestine, and across the globe.
