Following President Trump’s speech announcing his decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, Jewish Voice for Peace released the following quote for publication from Executive Director Rebecca Vilkomerson:
“Trump’s decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal, and his proposed new strategy, is dangerous and destructive.
“President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu are united in a shared an agenda of escalation with Iran, with the goal of enabling increased U.S. and Israeli military aggression. Trump’s hypocrisy is evident when he talks about caring about everyday Iranians, yet continually tries to ban them from entering the U.S.
“Grassroots advocacy succeeded in convincing Congress to save diplomacy once, and we have to do it again.”
In 2015, Jewish Voice for Peace members joined many others in making thousands of phone calls, writing op-eds and letters to the editor, meeting with members of Congress, attending town halls and demonstrations. Now, again, Jewish Voice for Peace members and supporters are reaching out to members of Congress urging them to support diplomacy over war.

Jewish Voice for Peace urges Congress to defend diplomacy, regardless of Trump’s possible decision to decertify the Iran nuclear deal. The International Atomic Energy Association, the US intelligence community, European allies, and even Trump’s military advisers agree that Iran is in compliance with the deal. Reimposing sanctions or passing legislation would destroy the deal and put the US on a path to war.
“President Trump’s proposed decision to decertify is dangerous, irresponsible, and flies in the face of international consensus.” said Rabbi Joseph Berman, Jewish Voice for Peace Government Affairs Liaison. “Congress must choose diplomacy over war and protect the deal with Iran.
“There is no better deal. Any legislation that would either re-impose sanctions suspended under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or impose any additional sanctions would further escalate tensions with Iran. President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu are united in a shared an agenda of escalation with Iran, with the goal of enabling increased U.S. and Israeli military aggression. If the U.S. walks out, or forces Iran to withdraw from the deal, we risk a cycle of increasing confrontations and yet another catastrophic U.S. war in the Middle East.”
Grassroots advocacy succeeded in preserving diplomacy once, and will need to again. Now, again, Jewish Voice for Peace members and supporters are reaching out to members of Congress urging them to support diplomacy over war.
