No Peace Process while Gaza is in the Dark
Quote for Publication regarding Kushner’s visit to Israel:
Jewish Voice for Peace offers the following quote for publication ahead of White House adviser Jared Kushner’s visit to Israel tomorrow as part of the Trump administration’s peacemaking efforts. Kushner’s visit comes just as electricity in Gaza is being cut down to just two hours a day, exacerbating an already disastrous humanitarian crisis.
Rebecca Vilkomerson, Executive Director Jewish Voice for Peace:
“Jared Kushner’s trip to Israel is a classic bait and switch. So long as Gaza remains in the dark, so long as Israeli forces control Palestinian freedom of movement, so long as Israel institutes collective punishment against entire families, villages and the Palestinian people, any “peace process” is nothing more than a farce. In the past, peace processes led by less overtly biased US envoys saw the proliferation of settlements and the entrenchment of Israeli control. That the Trump administration is sending Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, settlement funders with ties to right-wing Zionist organizations, as brokers for peace proves that Palestinians cannot expect even a modicum of justice from this process.
There can be no progress towards a just peace without equality and freedom for Palestinians. This week, attention should be on the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where residents are under siege and electricity is being cut down to an unlivable 2 hours a day, rather than on the Trump administration’s peace charade.”
